The children’s primary care service is a nurse-led service provided by Milton Keynes Urgent Care Services.
Our paediatric (children’s) nurses can assess, diagnose and treat your child’s common minor illnesses for example coughs, sore throat, stomach pains, diarrhoea and vomiting, urinary infections, and fevers.
The team will work with you providing education, information, and support via, telephone or face-to-face appointments to help you manage your child’s care at home.
They aim to improve children’s health care and prevent unnecessary Accident and Emergency Attendance.
Who are they?
They are a team of experienced Paediatric Nurses who have completed further training to allow for history taking, assessing, diagnosing, and treatments of minor illness conditions.
They are qualified prescribers so they will be able to prescribe antibiotics and other medications if required.
Between them, they have 30+ years of children’s nursing experience.
Who do we see?
We see children from 10 days old until their 18th Birthday who are registered with a Milton Keynes GP (if your child is not registered you should call 111 who will advise you.)
How do we get an appointment?
Call your surgery and ask for a referral to the children’s primary care team or call 111 who also have direct booking to our team.
What to expect
The nurses provide a full assessment for your child. They will work together with you to develop a plan of care.
They will also follow up on your child’s care as needed either on the telephone/video or face-to-face.
